World Day for
Migrants and Refugees
Today is Refugee
and Migrant Sunday when we are reminded to celebrate
with thanks the diversity of people in Ireland. The
Church, like the nation, is made up of people from many
different countries with different languages and customs.
We are also invited today to pray for migrants and refugees
that they may be welcomed warmly into our midst. This
year’s World Day for Migrants theme - “Minor
migrants and refugees” - touches an aspect that
Christians view with great attention, remembering the
most vulnerable people in our midst, children. Children
are dependent on others for food, shelter, and guidance.
Children often suffer the most in times of trial and
difficulty. Guide and bring those children who are strangers
in our land to a place of peace and safety and help
us comfort them and bring help in their time of need.

Week
for Prayer for Christian Unity - 18th to 25th January
Theme: Volunteering
Inspired by the
witness of churches from a divided country, Christians
throughout the world will be praying “that they
may become one in God’s hand” during this
Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
The week of prayer
mobilizes countless congregations and parishes around
the world. During this week Christians from different
confessional families get together and - at least on
one occasion - pray together in special ecumenical celebrations.
As this year’s theme is ‘Volunteering’
we encourage anyone who is involved in voluntary work
particularly Parish volunteers (members of St Vincent
de Paul, flower arrangers, Eucharistic Ministers, Readers,
Legion of Mary, cleaners, counters, collectors etc)
to attend the Service.
Prayer for Christian
Unity
God of compassion,
you have loved and forgiven us in Christ, and sought
to reconcile the entire human race in that redeeming
love. Look with favour upon us, who work and pray for
the unity of divided Christian communities. Grant us
the experience of being brothers and sisters in your
love. May we be one, one in your hand. Amen.
