St
Thérèse of Lisieux
Charity gave me the key to my
vocation. I saw that if the Church was a body made up
of different members, the most essential and important
one of all would not be lacking; I saw that the Church
must have a heart, that this heart must be on fire with
love. I saw that it was love alone which moved her other
members, and that were this love to fail, apostles would
no longer spread the Gospel and martyrs would refuse
to shed their blood. I saw that all vocations are summed
up in love, and that love is all in all, embracing every
time and place because it is eternal.
In a transport
of ecstatic joy I cried: “Jesus, my love,
I have at last found my vocation; it is love. I have
found my place in the Church’s heart, the place
You Yourself have given me, my God. Yes, there in the
heart of Mother Church I will be love; so shall I be
all things, so shall my dreams come true.”
(short extract from “The Story of a Soul”)

“For
me, prayer is an aspiration of the heart, it is a simple
glance directed to heaven, it is a cry of gratitude
and love in the midst of trial as well as joy. Finally,
it is something great and supernatural, which expands
my soul and unites me to Jesus.”
