All Saints’
Day
Through baptism
we become part of a family much larger than our biological
family. It is a family of people ‘set apart’
by God to be light in the darkness. These set-apart
people are called saints. Although we tend to think
about saints as holy and pious, and picture them with
halos above their heads and ecstatic gazes, true saints
are much more accessible. They are men and women like
us, who live ordinary lives and struggle with ordinary
problems. What makes them saints is their clear and
unwavering focus on God and God’s people. Some
of their lives may look quite different, but most of
their lives are remarkably similar to our own.

Indulgences for Holy Souls
From 12 noon
on 1st November until midnight on 2nd, all who have
received Holy Communion and prayed for the Pope’s
intentions (one Our Father and Hail Mary, or any other
prayer of one’s choice) can gain one plenary indulgence
by visiting a church or oratory, and reciting one Our
Father and the Apostles Creed. This indulgence is applicable
only to the souls of the departed. Confession may be
made at any time within the week preceding or the week
following 1st November. For every other visit to a church
made during this time a partial indulgence for the same
intention may be gained. The faithful who visit a cemetery
and pray for the dead may gain a plenary indulgence
applicable only to the Holy Souls on the usual conditions
once per day from 1st-8th November. The conditions mentioned
above apply also to this.

Concelebrated
Mass for the Dead
There will be
a Concelebrated Mass at 7.30 pm tomorrow evening (Monday,
2nd November) for the deceased members of each home
in the parish. If a close relative was buried from another
church during the past year please leave the deceased’s
name in the Sacristy or Parochial House so that they
can be remembered in the Mass and ask someone to receive
a candle in their memory.
As
November is a special month of prayer for the dead,
there is a book in which you can enrol the names of
your deceased family and friends. At the Masses each
day during the month, there will be a special prayer
for those enrolled.
